New icons make the desktop a bit more eye-candy

They say Windows 10 comes with pretty ugly icons that make the desktop and File Explorer even uglier than its predecessors, so many believe that the new icon set is by no means modern and fresh as Microsoft actually expected when it rolled out build 9926.

The Recycle Bin icon that’s now included in Technical Preview builds is pretty much the most criticized of them all, and many rushed to online icon collections to look for replacements.

We did the same and found two beautiful icons that make the desktop a bit more appealing, and at the same time, they seem to better match Microsoft’s idea of creating designs that reflect Windows’ approach.

The “This PC” icon we found on iconarchive.com puts the Windows logo in the spotlight, while the Recycle Bin icon not only that looks better but also keeps the recycle symbol, just like the new design adopted by Microsoft for Windows 10 does.

Of course, there are many ways to customize the desktop of Windows 10 and this is living proof that Microsoft shouldn’t spend too much time and resources to come up with better-looking icons.

Not the final icons

And yet, while everyone criticizes Microsoft for going for such a childish approach to Windows 10 icons, one should bear in mind that this isn’t the final design that would be available in the RTM version of the operating system.

Microsoft has already emphasized on several occasions that what we have is just an early UI and lots of things could change before the final product is ready, including icons.

Windows 10 is projected to hit the market in the second half of 2015, so there’s plenty of time to see new icons introduced by the time the public launch takes place.

Disclaimer: these icons are not created by Microsoft, but by third-parties, and there are slight chances to see them implemented in Windows 10. Similar designs are, however, possible.
