Microsoft confirms new options coming in Edge

Microsoft confirmed at BUILD 2015 that its new browser would be called Edge, and the company promised to make it a better rival to modern browsers currently on the market, so plenty of new features are on the table right now to be introduced in future updates.

And in addition to what we’ve seen until now, Microsoft is also preparing some new features, including synchronization features for passwords, history, tabs, and bookmarks, which means that you’ll have your content with you no matter the device you’ll be using.

Microsoft Edge will be available on all Windows 10 devices, that is PCs, tablets, and smartphones, so these synchronization features should really come in handy to those using more than a single Windows 10 product.

Basically, Microsoft’s new synchronization tools will work pretty much as Firefox Sync, which, according to its official description, “lets you share your data and preferences (such as your bookmarks, history, passwords, open tabs and installed add-ons) across all your devices.”

Not available at launch

The bad news is that all these goodies might not be available at launch, as Microsoft is still working on them and could release Windows 10, and Edge browser itself, without some features whose development requires more time.

Extension support will be coming as well in Microsoft Edge, but once again, it won’t be available when the final version of Windows 10 sees the light of day.

The company is also working to bring extension support on phones, but a specific deadline for this implementation is yet to be announced because Microsoft’s engineers are still working on the PC version, so mobile users could only get these in late 2015 or early 2016.

Windows 10 with Edge is projected to launch on PCs this summer, while mobile users should get the OS in October 2015.
