Looking to upgrade to a powerful device? Take a look below

With the arrival of 64-bit ARM chipsets introduced by silicone giants such as Intel, MediaTek and Qualcomm, having 4GB of RAM on board of a mobile device was something pretty much anticipated.

We can already see a few products of this kind making their way on the market, but their quantities are quite limited for the time being. But with Samsung kick-starting the mass production of the first 8 gigabit low-power double data-rate 4 (LPDDR4) mobile DRAM, we will certainly see a lot more soon.

Naturally, the question arises whether one actually needs 4GB of RAM on their smartphone, when 3GB of RAM or even 2GB seems quite enough for the average user.

This is a vast debate, but like with every advancement in the tech, mobile devices with 4GB of RAM will certainly draw the attention of the public. So for the sake of curiosity, we have put together a list of 4GB of RAM devices that are already making rounds online or will be upon us soon.

ASUS ZenFone 2

The ASUS ZenFone 2 was actually the first handset to be announced with 4GB of RAM. It dons a 5.5-inch Gorilla Glass 3-protected display with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and 403 ppi.

Under the hood lies an LTE-enabled, 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor clocked at 2.3GHz working in concert with PowerVR G430 GPU with Open 3.0 support.

The handset has yet to start selling to customers and a 2GB of RAM version will also be made available.

Xiaomi Mi Note Pro

Xiaomi’s new phablet is quite a monster capable of taking on devices such as the Apple iPhone 6 Plus.

The handset boasts a 5.7-inch display with impressive 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution and 515 ppi. The phone will be available only in a 64GB configuration (expandable via microSD) and is also one of the first models to officially back up the problematic Snapdragon 810 platform.

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Samsung’s upcoming flagship is rumored to come with a variant that’s going to boast a dual-edged display.

The Edge variant is going to be a little more powerful that the standard Galaxy S6, because rumor has it, it will arrive with 4GB of RAM onboard, while the latter will have only 3GB of RAM.

Samsung is said to have renounced the services of the Snapdragon 810 processor, so both versions of the Galaxy S6 are expected to take advantage of the Exynos 7420 platform.

Tune in at MWC 2015 next month to see if our predictions were right or not.

Oppo Find 9

We descend deeper in the realm of speculation with another rumored Snapdragon 810 device. The Oppo Find 9 is said to be the successor of the Find 7 model.

A few screen shots of the device has already appeared, but except for chipset and RAM capacity, we can’t really tell you a lot about the Find 9.

However, judging by the look of things, the Find 9 will be a very powerful device, probably coming with a QHD display or even something more advanced.

Huawei D8

Huawei is coming at Barcelona at MWC 2015 to unveil tablets and wearables, but maybe, just maybe, we’re going to see the D8 get a little bit of spotlight, which is nothing short of a beast of a device.

The rumor mill claims it will arrive with a 5.5-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution (although a Huawei official specifically talked about the uselessness of 2K displays).

The D8 is expected to run on a 64-bit Kirin 950 CPU complete with 64GB of RAM (like it’s the case with the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro).

Sony Xperia Z4

Sony’s upcoming flagship, the Xperia Z4 is another device rumored to take advantage of 4GB of RAM. But even as we were expecting to see the new Xperia arrive at MWC 2015, a new piece of information revealed this would not be the case.

The Xperia Z4 will probably arrive this summer instead and with all these layoffs in the smartphone division, it’s probably to be understood.

The handset should be offered in both 1080p and QHD setups, while the Snapdragon 810 will be running things under the hood.

Sony is also said to equip the device with a 21MP camera with a brand-new Exmor RS IMX230 sensor, as part of its main shooter.

OnePlus 2

The rumor mill is expecting OnePlus to roll out a successor this year. We don’t really have a lot of information related to it, but one thing is certain.

The so-called OnePlus 2 will take advantage of the company’s first custom ROM, OxyenOS, which is set to be unveiled in mid-February.

Apart from that, the OnePlus 2 will take advantage of the services of the Snapdragon 810, which is why the handset will probably get delayed to Q3 2015.

OnePlus 2 is said to rely on a 3,300 mAh battery.

Google Project Tango

Now for a few tablets taking advantage of the same RAM standard. We start off with the Google Project Tango slate, a developer kit which is currently available on Google Play.

The device runs on an NVIDIA Tegra K1 CPU fitted with 128GB of internal storage. It packs a motion-tracking camera and integrated depth sensors capable of creating a 3D sensing environment.

The slate runs Android 4.4.2 for the time being and nothing has been said about the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Fuhu’s Massive 65-inch Kiddie Tablet

Fuhu wants to make tablet-play a social engagement, so it has released a uber-powerful Android tablet coming with a gigantic 65-inch display.

The device is offered in 55-inch and 65-inch varieties and operates by virtue of an octa-core Tegra X1 chip with 256-core Maxwell GPU.

Both models boast 4K resolution displays and can be hooked to controllers, a mouse and keyboard combo. Basically, everything you’d wish you had.

Lenovo ThinkPad 10

Lenovo is quietly offering a high-end version of the ThinkPad 10 which comes equipped with 4GB of RAM.

The device ships with a 10.1-inch FHD IPS multi-touch display and an Intel Atom Z3795 processor clocked at 2.4GHz under the hood, combined with 128GB of internal storage.

Users can choose to have Windows 8.1 with Bing on board or the full-fledged version of Windows for an extra buck.

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra

We had to include this tablet into the list for one specific reason. It will reportedly not come with 4GB of RAM, as the rumor mill seems to indicate the Tablet Ultra will boast a whooping 6GB of RAM (in a 3GB x 2 setup) on board.

The device purportedly is set to arrive with a 12.9-inch LED display with 3840 x 2400 pixel resolution, a Snapdragon 810 chipset under the hood and 64GB of internal storage.

We should probably expect to see the Xperia Z4 Tablet Ultra make a debut this summer, when the Xperia Z4 flagship is also bound to come forth.
