They are called Toughpower Gold and Toughpower Grand

It's true that 80 Plus Gold hasn't been the top 80 Plus rating for quite some time, but it's still the highest that most consumers can aim for, considering the prices of the 80 Plus Platinum and Titanium ratings. That's why the new Thermaltake PSUs are bound to sell better than, say, that 1700W Lepa PSU model of a while ago.

An 80 Plus Gold power supply unit is a PSU that has an efficiency of 87% at 20% load, 90% at 50% load, and 87% at 100% load.

That means that barely more than 10% of its total energy is wasted, so you don't have to worry about your power bill being all that large in the long run.

Thermaltake has released two PSU series with 80 Plus Gold specification support: the Toughpower Gold (called just Toughpower apparently) and Toughpower Grand.

The Thermaltake Toughpower PSUs

With energy delivered via a single +12V output, the PSUs have a flat modular design and use a high quality Japanese capacitor to ensure stability.

Flat modular design means that while the main power cables are connected straight to the inner PCB, the SATA, MOLEX and other optional cables are fully separate.

This lets you install only those cables you truly need, ensuring a free case interior, and by extension, better air flow.

The Thermaltake Toughpower Grand PSUs

In addition to a bit of visual embellishment on the outside, they use 100% high-quality Japanese capacitors (not just one) and are fully modular, meaning that all cables are shipped separately, not just some.

Otherwise, the PSUs are similar to the normal ones, insofar as 80 Plus Gold PSUs can even be considered normal anyway.

Curiously though, the power outputs of the Toughpower Grand series are lower and fewer than those of the Toughpower Series. Which brings us to our final order of business.

Availability and pricing

The Thermaltake Toughpower Series should show up online soon, if they haven't already, with power outputs of 850W, 1000W, 1200W and 1500W, while the Toughpower Grand will sell in 1050W and 1200W. You can be sure that if you buy one of these things, or any high-wattage 80 Plus Gold or better PSUs on the market, you won't need to upgrade for many years. Especially with how better CPUs and GPUs always come with a reduction in power needs these days.
