While most HDD enclosures available on the market aren't exactly what we'd call “hot” devices, that's not really the case with the new Thermaltake Max 5G, which not only stores one's hard drives in a cool environment, but also enables very fast data transfer rates via the built-in USB 3.0 interface. The new enclosure from Thermaltake provides the necessary support for all 3.5-inch SATA I, II, and 6G Hard Drives up to 2TB, while its built-in dual ultra-silent 80mm fans with blue LEDs ensure data integrity during file transferring between external hard disk and the host computer.

And we're quite sure that the device will do a great job at keeping those HDDs cool and quiet, since the built-in fans measure 80 x 80 x 15mm, fan speed being set at 800 RPM, while the noise level hitting 12 dBA.

However, if you're not exactly into that whole LED trend, you can easily turn off the blue LEDs via the built-in switch found on the back of the enclosure.

As previously mentioned, the devices grants users access to SuperSpeed USB 3.0 transfer speeds of up to 5Gbps, but in the same time it's backwards compatible with all USB 2.0 (up to 480 Mbps) and USB 1.1 hosts.

It's also interesting to point out that the enclosures includes a shielded USB 3.0 cable to ensure maximum transfer speed with minimum distortion, while the integrated stand easily twists out for added overall enclosure stability.

Last, but certainly not least, we'll have to mention that the Thermaltake Max 5G (part number ST0020) will take quite a bit of space wherever one might decide to place it, since it measures 145 x 207 x 47 mm and weighs around 405 grams.

The Thermaltake Max 5G sells for somewhere in the vicinity of 52 US dollars, which is quite an OK and fair price, as far as we're concerned.
