Direct contact cooling for Intel's upcoming Sandy Bridge-E CPUs

Thermaltake has just announced the introduction of two new direct contact CPU coolers in the company's Contac series that are compatible with Intel's upcoming LGA 2011 processors based on the high-performance Sandy Bridge-E architecture.

Unlike traditional cooler designs, the Contac series models have the heat pipes in direct contact with the CPU's heatspreader in order to increase thermal conductivity.

In the case of the Contac 39 and Contac 30 models, Thermaltake has used three 8mm thick heat pipes that draw the heat away from the processor and into an aluminum heatsink.

According to the maker, its heatsink design has been optimized in order to reduce back air resistance by utilizing curved aluminum fins.

The coolers are also paired with one or two low noise 120mm PWM fans (the Contac 30 has only one fan while the Contac 39 features two fans) that can work at speeds between 800 and 2000 RPM, depending on the temperatures of the system.

At their lowest speed, the fans are rate said to generate only 15dBA of noise and an airflow of 29.434CFM, while the highest rotation setting increases the cooler's noise to 33.2dBA, but also its airflow to 72.084CFM.

The fans are connected to the heatsink using anti-vibration soft mounts and also use a mounting system specially designed for easy maintenance of the fans.

Another interesting feature of the two Contac series CPU coolers is that these were designed in order to be compatible wit Intel's upcoming Sandy Bridge-E processors that use the LGA 2011 socket.

Outside of these CPUs, the two coolers also support AMD's FM1 and AM3/AM3+ sockets as well as with Intel LGA 1155/1156 and LGA 1366 processors.

Sadly, no information regarding pricing or availability was made public by Thermaltake, so we don't know when these will start reaching retailers.
