Thermaltake Frio Extreme CPU Cooler Demonstrated

While new high-end processors didn't really debut at this year's Computex trade show, some makers of cooling products, in this case Thermaltake, decided to reveal some items of their own, not that the summer heat is intensifying.

Summer may only be starting in half of the world's temperate areas, but it just so happens that many of Thermaltake's customers live in those regions.

The company already has a bunch of such things on sale, but it demoed the Frio Extreme anyway, aiming it at both Intel and AMD CPUs.

This might come as a bit of a surprise, seeing as how neither Intel nor Advanced Micro Devices actually released a new CPU lately, at least not of the high-end variety.

Actually, there has been more movement on the tablet sector and, thus, the segment of mobile central processing units, like the still unreleased Medfield.

Nevertheless, since a trade show is a trade show, it only makes sense for Thermaltake to show off something.

In this instance, it is the Frio Extreme that was tasked with attracting onlookers, this being a cooler that has six 6mm copper heatpipes and a pair of 140mm fans which can spin at 1,200 to 1,800 RPM (rotations per minute). This leads to cooling capacity of 250W.

Even more, enthusiasts will likely be pleased to learn that a third fan will be bundled with the product itself, for an extra level of airflow.

Apparently, Thermaltake made a point of having the Frio Extreme be compatible with as many processors as possible.

As such, in addition to Intel LGA 1366, LGA 1155 and LGA 1156 CPUs, it will also work for AM2(+) and AM3(+) processors from Advanced Micro Devices.
