There is currently a movie based on "The Witcher" novels by Andrzej Sapkowski in the making, and this one might actually turn out to be good for a change.

CD Projekt RED’s much acclaimed role-playing based series is inspired by the same novels by the Polish writer, and the third installment in the franchise is on its way to the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms, expected to arrive in February next year.

The movie adaptation of the novels is directed by Polish Oscar-nominated director and animator Tomasz Baginski, and will include live actors instead of relying on animation, like his previous projects.

Baginski worked on the intro movies of both The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings, as well as on the Cyberpunk 2077 teaser video for the developer’s upcoming science fiction game.

"The Witcher" got a TV series in Poland, and then a full feature film that didn’t quite rise to the fans’ expectations, and was severely panned by the author, which is hardly surprising, given that Sapkowski also revealed that he didn’t think too highly of the video games either.

In any case, the upcoming film is being created by Baginski’s studio, Platige Image, and will feature live actors and animated effects, but the details so far are pretty sparse. However, his previous work offers a genuine hope that the movie will turn out at least watchable.
