The official name for the movie is “The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie: Sponge Out of Water” and Nickelodeon & Paramount have announced that it's coming to the big screen some time in 2015.

The details of the plot line haven't been released yet, probably because they haven't been ironed out, but it has been suggested that villain Plankton will be playing a part in this film too. Based on the title of the film, one can guess that SpongeBob is going to be taken out of his element and he'll have to fight to find a way back.

Apart from the original voice actors from the TV show that will be doing the major characters, the movie project is said to have some additional talent from big name actors such as Antonio Banderas and guitarist Slash, who is also apparently billed to make an appearance in the movie.

The most important change from the animated series on television seems to be the fact that the movie is going to be done using computer-generated imagery, bringing Spongebob from his 2D world to the 3D era.

The new production is being regarded as a sequel to the 2004 “The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie” and is projected to be released on February 6, 2015.
