Windows RT isn’t quite the most successful platform released by Microsoft and even though early uptake figures proved that its performance was somewhat disappointing, there still are some people who believe that the tablet OS would eventually succeed.

So is the case of Qualcomm CEO Steve Mollenkopf, who told PCMag in an interview at CES that his company is optimistic that Windows RT would at some point take off.

“We continue to be optimistic about the future of the Windows ecosystem whether that's through Windows RT or Windows Phone. If you look at productivity computing as a category, a lot of people are doing more and more work on their tablets and their smartphones together, and there's a blending; at some size you can't tell the difference,” he said.

“If you look at Microsoft and Qualcomm, we have a strong relationship, and we expect it be an even stronger relationship going forward.”

At the same time, Microsoft is also investing big in Windows RT, with the recently-revamped Surface models also featuring a version powered by this particular OS flavor.
