Do you have an 8-year-old son or daughter? Or one that is just a bit over that age? Then you might soon be able to sign them up for a 3D design and 3D printing class.

That means that children could learn to use computer-aided design software and 3D printers as early as the first or second year of grade school.

So if you live in Culver City you can head on over to one block east of the Jefferson Exit of the 405 and sign your kid up.

The Exploratory actually offers courses for all fields of Steam (science, technology, engineering, art, and math). 3D printing was just a logical addition really.

The Maker Space dedicated to the kid-friendly 3D printing class is of 2,000 square feet / 185 square meters, so space isn't an issue.

The class teaches, first, how to sculpt things from a ball of clay and a pencil. Then come the basics of creating a digital 3D character, using a digital ball of clay this time.

At the end of the class, the designs are 3D printed for the children to take home.

Starting on April 5, the class will take place every Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. for six consecutive weeks. Registrations are done for free, but the cost of the class for each child will be of $120 / €87, or $95 / €68 for members. Up to 8 kids will be part of a class.
