A new Ubuntu Touch OTA update is coming this week

Now that Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) is open for development and the Ubuntu Online Summit for Ubuntu 15.10 takes place these days between May 5 and 7 on the UbuntuOnAir channel, the Ubuntu Phone team has announced plans for the next Ubuntu Touch development cycle.

We've reported earlier this week that a new Ubuntu Touch OTA (Over the Air) update will be available to Ubuntu Phone users worldwide, no matter if they're using Ubuntu Touch on a Nexus 4 smartphone or they own the real thing, the BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition phone.

So, if you're an Ubuntu Phone user, expect an update for your Ubuntu-powered device later this week, codenamed OTA-3.5, which promises to fix some of the nasty bugs reported by users since the previous OTA update of the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system.

There are no plans for Ubuntu Touch devices based on Ubuntu 15.10

A Phone Roadmap session took place today, May 5, during which Ubuntu Touch developers overviewed the plans regarding Canonical's future phone products. One important note is that, at the moment, the Ubuntu Phone team has no plans to deliver touch devices based on Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf).

"Currently there are no plans for wily-based touch devices in the future, so we'll probably stick with vivid for the nearest time," says Łukasz Zemczak. "We might implement something similar to a dual landing scheme, where every vivid landing would be auto-synced to wily, but this is still something under consideration."

If users request Ubuntu Touch builds based on Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), the Ubuntu Phone development might consider implementing a dual landing scheme that combines Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) builds with Ubuntu 15.10 ones. Stay close for more news related to the Ubuntu Touch development cycle, as we will announce the release of the OTA update later this week.
