There's No Escaping McDonald's in the US or the UK

Assuming you'd ever want to get in your car and drive until you no longer see a McDonald's restaurant, you'd probably have to go abroad if you happen to live in the US or the UK, as HelaBlog brings to attention once more.

Two years ago, Data Pointed set out to illustrate (literally) how consumerism was making businesses flourish in the US where none had ever been before.

Since McDonald's is probably the best company to look at when considering this aspect, Data Pointed came up with a map showing the distances between all McD's in the US.

As it turns out, if you wanted to get away, you probably couldn't – or would for a maximum of just a few hours.

Now, the former blog has come up with its own map, which proves that the UK is not that far behind, even though it would seem that the density of McD's restaurants in the US is considerably greater.

HelaBlog refers to the situation as “The United States of McDonald's” and it would probably offer plenty of ammunition to those saying that McD's and various other fast food restaurant chains are responsible for the obesity epidemics currently sweeping the world.

As far as it's concerned, Data Pointed chooses to focus on the impact opening a restaurant in the middle of nowhere has on the environment.

“Mr. Real Estate Tycoon, did you have to plop your shopping center smack dab in the middle of what was previously nowhere? Okay, the land was cheap. And yes, you did traffic studies and proved that the interstate and distant suburbs would drench whatever you built in a raging torrent of eager consumerism,” the e-zine writes.

“But your retail monstrosity drains the wildness from the countryside for twenty miles in every direction! Sure, you can’t see it from everywhere – but once you know it’s there, you feel it. In the rural drawl of a neighboring rancher, that flat-out sucks!” Data Pointed writes.

That's not an accusation to McDonald's, it's just a statement of fact: these things do happen.

In the meantime, the two maps, one of the UK and the other of the US, prove that, indeed, McDonald's didn't come up with their slogan out of thin air. We are “loving it!”
