The web is going mobile and there's no better proof of it than that less and less people use the web, as in websites and pages, but use apps to content to web content and services.

According to Facebook's own data, there are now 300 million people each month using the Facebook mobile app, on the phone or mobile device of their choice.

Analyst Benedict Evans has looked at the app usage data published by Facebook and has come up with the number.

It seems that, just after Christmas, when many more people got smartphones, the numbers shot up enough to pass the milestone.

The iPhone and iPod Touch Facebook app is still the most popular out there, it just went past the 100 million monthly active users mark.

But Android usage is not that far behind, there are now 87.8 million monthly active users coming from the official Android Facebook app.

Surprisingly, or not, BlackBerry devices come in third, with 48.3 million monthly users, quite a lot of them considering that there are about 70 million devices out there.

iPad usage is still less than half of feature phone usage while Windows Phone doesn't even register.

There is a trend of Android users catching up to iPhone ones, in fact, there are now more daily active users on Google's platform than there are on Apple's. Given that more Android phones are sold and activated each day than iPhones, the difference is only going to bet bigger.

The interesting thing in all of this is that a big percentage of Facebook users visit the site via the mobile apps. Considering that many are using the mobile websites as well, the number of mobile users should be even greater.

Of course, there is some overlap between platforms, some people may have an iPhone and an Android phone as well, but the overall numbers should be fairly accurate.
