There is even a company that specializes in medical related 3D printing

There aren't many people who contest the usefulness of 3D printing technology in all walks of life and industrial sectors, but that doesn't mean people are all that eager to start using it either.

After all, just because something can be done doesn't mean that it's easy to get the hang of the “how,” or that there's someone in the same neighborhood who can teach you and provide you with the resources.

Fortunately, companies that specialize in helping with 3D printed medical applications have been showing up.

Most recently, a company called Replica 3DM began to make a name for itself by using Stratasys 3D printers (Objet 24 and Objet 30 specifically) to create models of bones and organs which are subsequently used in surgery planning and practice runs.

So far, twelve National Health Service hospitals in the United Kingdom have called upon these tools offered by Replica 3DM.

All it takes is to provide the company with CD scans of the areas expected to be operated upon. The scans are used to make 3D printed replicas of those portions of the body, which then assist in surgeries from the fields of orthopedics, neurological, maxillofacial, nose and throat wards, ear operations and even spine operations.
