Spire has released the TherMax X2 Eclipse IV cooler, the best in the series so far, featuring an all-black nickel-plated coating that sets it apart from most others.

Coolers are usually colored grey or chrome, since they are made of nickel or aluminum, although heatpipes can be both red/orange-ish and grey, depending on whether they are mode of copper or nickel (or nickel-plated copper).

This new one from Spire, however, is black because it is coated in nickel, in order to prevent oxidation. That goes for both the U-shape tower and the six 6mm copper heatpipes. Everything still shines though, so the overall color of the cooler is closer to a dark grey most of the time.

Only the fans are truly black actually (Nano-tech bearing 120 mm DC Fans).

Other features include anti-vibe rubber fan corners, asymmetrical heat-sink design (for RAM clearance) and U-shape tower (unrestricted air flow).

All in all, the Spire TherMax X2 Eclipse IV should handle thermal loads of up to 200 TDP, for Intel LGA1366/1156/1155/1150/775 and AMD AM2/AM2+/AM3/AM3+/FM1/FM2 CPUs/APUs. Sales are underway for $59.95 / €44.95.
