It’s recommended that you make a backup of the RAID files before applying this build

Thecus has outed a new package developed for most of its network-attached storage devices, namely the 2.04.01 firmware version, which adds a huge number of fixes and new features to the compatible NASes.

The version fixes lots of issues, such as the ones with the setup wizard, Data Guard time, log function, and RAID expand that would not work, fail, or would be missing in some cases. Moreover, the LDAP join and HD RAID status problems are resolved as well.

As for the new features, this release adds support for EXT4 expansion over 16TB, compatibility for some SPF+ modules, and migration from RAID1 to RAID5 directly, and from RAID5 to RAID6 through an additional HDD.

Before updating the firmware, make sure to back up all the important files – the version isn’t intended to be destructive, but do so just to avoid the potential risk of data loss.

So, if you consider installing the 2.04.01 version, login as admin from the NAS web interface, go to System Management → Firmware upgrade, and press the button on the right to select a file. Browse and confirm the selection, press “Apply,” and then the “Next” button twice.

At this point, the update process will start, so make sure you don’t power off the device or close the browser’s window. Doing so may cause an update failure and, therefore, device malfunction.

That being said, the link below leads to the complete list of compatible devices; from there choose the one that best describes your Thecus NAS, and view all the fixes and changes that are included in this release.
