Thecus has just announced that it updated its product range with a new NAs solution that is known as the N4100EVO and comes powered by a new Cavium dual-core processor paired together with Thecus’ powerful firmware.

The NAS supports up to four SATA 3.5-inch drives, which can be setup to work in either a RAID 0, 1, or 5 mode, and apart from the 600MHz Cavium CNS3420 SoC also comes equipped with an XOR Engine.

According to Thecus, this is the first SMB/home NAS on the market to use dedicated hardware to lighten the load of building, or rebuilding, RAID volumes.

In addition to the powerful hardware, the N4100EVO also features Thecus’ own firmware that brings a wide variety of features such as support for XFS, 3TB hard drives, SATA 6Gbps, iSCSI, as well as an open source module system with more than a dozen free modules available right now on the company’s website.

Other features of the N4100EVO include, a front-mounted LCD screen for easy monitoring and administration, Gigabit Ethernet support, two USB 2.0 ports (one placed in the front and one in the back), and the NAS also comes bundled together with the Acronis Backup software.

“Cavium is delighted to be working with Thecus in introducing the revolutionary 4-Bay NAS product to the market,” says Douglas Cheung, Director of Marketing for Consumer and Home Networking at Cavium.

“Our ECONA family of dual-core System-On-Chips (SoCs) deliver best–in-class NAS performance with the lowest power consumption.

“N4100EVO leverages these attributes of ECONA SoC to deliver an energy efficient 4-bay solution without compromising the performance or cost targets,” conclude the company’s rep.

No details regarding the pricing or the availability of the 4-bay Cavium-powered N4100EVO NAS were provided by Thecus.
