AppleInsider tells us that Apple should ship 300,000 MacBooks this month to keep up with the orders. The new Core 2 Duo processors from Intel are a hit, that's for sure, and the success of the line of laptops from Apple using them isn't something unexpected, but that doesn't make it less impressive. The 13-inch notebooks are manufactured by Asustek Computer, and while these MacBooks are expected to reach 300,000 units this month, the overall shipments of the producer are expected to reach 700,000, said the Chinese-language Commercial Times, quoted by AppleInsider. While October saw Asustek's notebook shipments dropping to 450,000-500,000 units, because Apple was upgrading its MacBooks to use the new Core 2 Duo processors, the forecast for the three month period ending December estimates sales between 1.6 and 1.8 million, and that doesn't sound bad at all! While checking AppleInsider's forums, I tracked a problem that, once solved, would increase the sales of these MacBooks even more: custom building options, anyone? There's a gap between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro, and that's not only the 900$ price jump. While the MacBook has a really capable CPU, its GPU is the main drawback, and some users may not enjoy the metallic case of the Pro version or the 15 inch display. Despite the fact that I would enjoy having a MacBook with a metallic case and a display as large as possible, I don't like throwing money on things I don't need, and I know I am not the only one thinking this. All I hope at this time is to see a MacBook priced around 900$ and with custom building options, and I'll be another Apple satisfied customer. Can I get this as a Christmas present?
