Barracuda Message Archiver 150 is available for small businesses as of March 12, 2009. Barracuda Networks claims that the new email and IM archiving solution beats all rival products in terms of price. It comes with a price tag of $1.999 for a total of 75 users.

The application archives the email content so that it can be easily retrieved by end-users, administrators or auditors if needed. It provides comprehensive archiving, search and retrieval, exchange stubbing, policy management, intelligent storage manager, reporting and statistics, and role-based interface.

Exchange stubbing is a feature that the whole Baracuda Message Archiver software line has in order to optimize the email server resources. This feature solves the problem of bandwidth requirements and email server storage because it lets administrators move the email attachments from Microsoft Exchange to the Barracuda Message Archiver.

Exchange stubbing helps the application connect to Microsoft Exchange servers in order to find the emails that meet some criteria concerning the attachments. These are copied by Barracuda Message Archiver that will also remove the attachments from the email server and replace them with hyperlinks to the attachments that are now located on the archiver.

The Outlook Add-in that Message Archiver has gives a correct handle of the attachments when the emails that have hyperlinks are being accessed or forwarded to another user. This add-in will recover the attachment and place it inline, thus guarantying that the email and its attachment will appear just like they were before the Exchange stubbing and that the end-user doesn't have to leave the email client to manually retrieve the attachment. For users who don't have the Outlook add-in or the ones that access stubbed email from Outlook Web Access, mobile devices or other email clients, Barracuda ensures that the formatting of the stub would allow access to the attachment through a simple hyperlink.

The vice president of product management for Barracuda Networks, Stephen Pao, stated that “With Exchange stubbing, administrators can also realize the benefits of efficient storage management and compliance satisfaction, without disrupting the ease of access that the end user expects when looking for an email or its attachment.”

The Exchange stubbing is available with firmware 2.0 and brings no additional changes for the current or future clients of Barracuda Message Archiver.
