During the press conference where the iTunes compatible Motorola, dubbed ROKR E1, phone was announced, Apple has launched other surprises as well.

Apple, which according to the company's own statements, currently owns 85% of the US music download market, has also introduced a new iPod model, dubbed iPod nano.

Weighing 42 grams and having a 1.5 inch color display, the iPod nano will be shipped in two variants: a 2 GB one, priced at $199, which can store 500 songs and a 4GB one, priced at $249, which can store 1000 songs.

Measuring 3.5 x 1.6 x 0.27 inch, the new iPod nano is 62% smaller than the iPod mini and it comes in two colors: white and black. The most significant advantage of this model is the battery's lifespan, Apple announcing that their solution will ensure 14 hours of operating time.

Apple has also launched the Harry Potter iPod, which contains all six books of the series in audio format.
