The iPhone - not so great, but will still sell like crazy

I don't know about you, but I'm getting a little tired of all the fuss around the iPhone. And ridiculously as it may sound, all this talk about the iPhone is turning out to be more the talk about the other products that are infinitely cooler/better/cheaper/smaller/ (add here) than the iPhone. Whenever some cool phone is launched, it's automatically compared to the iPhone. I'm not at all into mobile phones, and this is what I was able to understand:

Case 1. Samsung Ultra Smart F700 - great, full-featured, touch-screen phone, like the iPhone, plus 3G support, a slide-out keyboard and a five megapixel camera, and cheaper.

Case 2. Neonode N2 - small, great design, 2 megapixel camera, touch-screen, of course, MiniSD support for media storage, and cheaper! Yeah, this one's also a picker.

Case 3. LG Prada - similar to the iPhone (much to similar, LG claimed), but better looking, Flash GUI, touch-screen (obviously); this one's even more expensive than the iPhone.

Until now, these are the 'iPhone Killers'. Since we have yet to see them, including the iPhone, I remain skeptical. After all, one can't really tell which is better before actually trying them out. We'll see who's worth their $500 or so in a few months.

Considering these 'iPhone killers', how 'dead' will the iPhone be? Not so much, according to ComputerWorld editor Ryan Faas. He thinks iPhones will sell like crazy, despite not being as great as other phones. Why?, might one ask. Well, because the iPhone is first released in the US. All the others will first hit the European/Asia market. Americans will buy the iPhone, because it's new and cool, touch-screen and all, even if it's a rip-off. Well done, Apple, well done!
