Rumors on the potential iPhone release in Canada have sprung over the past days. Some say that the handset will be available at Rogers, while others see the phone coming at Holt Renfrew as soon as at the beginning of next year.

These might be just rumors, but there are high chances that some truth lies behind them and that the iPhone is indeed heading towards Canada. It's all based on insider sources who claim that there is a great possibility for this to happen in the near future.

"The iPhone is a phenomenal product and at Rogers Wireless we look forward to being able to offer it in Canada. When we have a public announcement to make, we'll let you know", said Elizabeth Hamilton, Director of Corporate Communications for Rogers. This gives all chances for such a thing actually happening, especially as European carriers have been less straight in making public their negotiations with Apple for carrying the device.

Rogers Wireless will be selling the iPhone through a Canadian luxury retailer, Holt Renfew. Now the really shady part of the matter starts. Previous rumors stated that this carrier was supposed to bring the handset as soon as towards the middle of October. Still, recent information stated that there are no chances of it happening earlier than January 2008. There are as little as no chances for the iPhone to arrive in Canada this year, as Apple initially promised for it only an European release for this year.

That was the ambiguous part and here comes the ludacris one. The iPhone is supposed to be available at Holt Renfew for the price of about USD 800, twice as much as people living in the US have to pay for it. Crossing the border seems to be really expensive there, or it might be all about choosing a luxury retailer to support the phone that drove the price sky high.
