The iMo, an Apple-Inspired Car

Automotive design student Anthony Jannarelly must really like Apple's designs, for his concept of an environmentally friendly vehicle is nothing more than a sturdy iPod on wheels. The iMo even has its own tab / section on the fake Apple website, just between Mac and iPhone.

When designing the iMo, Jannarelly also wanted to be able to show it off the Apple way. Therefore, the guy drew up a fake Apple website adding Apple-specific elements, such as separate sections for Features, Tech Specs, and a Gallery. Even a Buy Now button is available, although no pre-orders can be placed for the concept iMo vehicle slated for a 2024 release. So, let's see what's under the hood. The Tech Specs section reveals that iMo revolves around elimination:

iMo is made from very few parts, making it simple and reliable. Using electricity it charges itself through a socket at the back or by using electric induction from the floor, when available.

iMo boasts an artificial intelligence system, Nitinol, soft wheel and soft seat technology, Segway giroscopic technology (explaining the missing third wheel), and fully recyclable parts (of course). The 2+1 seater has a face and actually embodies some “moving organic parts which make it feel alive, in order to enhance the interaction and emotional connection with the user,” the specs list says.

Owners will be able to actually talk to iMo, telling “him” to play taxi driver and come pick them up whenever they're ready to leave. In the same context, iMo can play the baby-sitter or the transporter (taking you back home when you're too wasted to drive). Holographic technology and Gesture Recognition Control are just more features you'd normally expect from an Apple product.

What came as a surprise was that Anthony also made videos featuring the iMo, complementing Apple's TV ads to great extent. Moreover, while some of the elements behind this beautiful concept seem a bit far fetched (its highly compact design, for instance), the iMoConcept website is definitely worth your attention. Everyone can agree the iMo is just one of those steps we'll be forced to take.

Would you buy an iMo?

It doesn't look anything like a "sturdy iPod on wheels". More like an "original candy-colored iMac on wheels".
