Sun, mighty sun

One thing that's not that cool about gadgets is that they "tend" to stop working as their batteries are depleted; and the fact that they need power in order to run. Unfortunately, there isn't any way to get our hands on gadgets running without electricity so other solutions must be developed for this problem; since green energy is on the everyday list, we'll introduce to you a new member of the eco-friendly family, the iCharge Eco solar power charger.

Sunlight is by far one of the best energy sources. It is pretty much eternal: the death of the sun should not concern you if you don't plan to live for some billions of years from now on.

Another two great things about sun energy is that it is free and available almost anywhere. And, of course, it is green, with a dramatically lesser impact on the environment. The iCharge Eco is a nifty gadget that can recharge a heap of portable devices, from iPods and iPhones to PSP, Nintendo DS, mobile phones, PDAs and so many more. It sports a generous 1,350mAh battery to store the harnessed power and it can deliver a very useful DC5.0-5.5V/600mA current for your devices, pretty much like any wall adapter would.

The size of a common candybar phone, the iCharge Eco can be easily carried inside your pocket and will not take too much space in your briefcase or back pack, either. And, being a solar charger, you can take it anywhere, including on longer trips through the vast outdoors, if you don't want to be separated from your handheld devices.

You'll need around 15 hours of light to fully charge the battery of the iCharge Eco, a more modest 5 hours' time if you recharge it via USB from a computer and only 3 hours if you're indoor and are using the wall adapter. The iCharge Eco comes with a lot of adapter plugs for various devices and you can choose between black, white, silver, red, pink, blue or green. No prices were announced yet, but we expect the iCharge Eco to come in as a very attractive holiday gift.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
