Over the last years, phone producers have integrated an increasing number of functions and features into regular cell phones as well as smartphones, thus automatically creating the need for a connection between mobile devices and computers and considerably reducing the battery life.
Since the USB 2.0 standard has become ubiquitous in today's world of gadgets, Pretec, a company famous for its memory cards, comes with a solution that fulfills many roles, all extremely useful to the user.
Pretec showcased at CeBIT 2006 the i-Disk
Mobile device, a USB 2.0 flash drive which bridges mobile phones or smartphones and PCs/notebooks and also acts as a charger.
With the help of the i-Disk Mobile, users can upload, download or Sync the data of Phone Book, Short Message and phone call records from mobile phone to PC (or vice versa), all these while the device's battery is charging.
Pretec has adopted an interesting concept with i-Disk Mobile and has eliminated all buttons, all transfer and sync commands being carried out with the phone's keys and buttons. The producer claims that this has allowed a significant reduction of costs.
Currently, the device is compatible with the phones from Nokia, Sony and Ericsson, but brands like Motorola, Samsung, Benq/Siemens, LG and ASUS will be added soon.
Pretec has announced that i-Disk Mobile will be available somewhere in April, but has omitted to mention the Flash drive's capacity and price.
