High Tech Computer Corp, a Taiwanese company, has announced the availability of the first 3G terminal running Windows Mobile 5.0, a device called HTC Universal. This model will allow users to be more efficient, to benefit from complete multimedia experiences and to access the Internet in excellent conditions.

World wide shipping of this device will start from the second half of this year, and the first operators which have shown interest in the model are the Europeans,
American and Asian operators.

Bill Gates presented the new version of the mobile operating system during Microsoft Mobile & Embedded Developers Conference. Microsoft's leader has declared that Windows Mobile 5.0 is backed by the company's entire cell phone strategy which focuses on compatibility and communication. Gates has even used the HTC device to exemplify the new functions and performances of the operating system.

"This is the first time we are seeing the same internet experience, which you can only have in your office, with universal 3G high speed wireless data capability and large VGA display legibility. The new features from Windows Mobile 5.0 will greatly improve the keyboard experience and persistent storage feature will keep user data forever." said Peter Chou, president of HTC.

The HTC Universal terminal has a keyboard which allows the quick editing of files created with Microsoft Office. Regarding communications, the phone offers the newest video call technologies by including two digital cameras. The clamshell design allows the 180 degree rotation of the display, and the stereo speaker system offers the best sound quality for videoconferences.
