EURid, an organization that deals with the administration and promoting of the .eu TLD, has announced that the domains will be available starting December 7, 2005.

The regulations related to this domain (registering conditions, eligible owners, etc) are specified in a law approved by the European Council in 2002. The .eu domains are available for pre-registering starting this year's June.

The domains' registration is not carried out by EURid, but by the companies the organization has impowered for this specific task. The list of the approved companies is already published on EURid's official site.

In order to prevent cybersquatting (the registration of domains that legally belong to a certain company, with the purpose of reselling them for enormous sums or to generate traffic), EURid has announced that until February 7 2006, the .eu domains will be granted only to public organizations and to those to own a certain trademark.

From this date and up to April 7, 2006, only the companies will be able to register .eu domains; after that, any person will be allowed to reserve and purchase an .eu domain.

The price of an .eu domain depends on the distributor. EURid will organize a launching of the domain in October and November in all of Europe's major capitals.
