The daughter of the Israeli ambassador in London was sentenced to 6 years in jail after she had been trialed for drug deals. Apparently, the 21-year-old girl was a believed to be a drug0smuggler, as she detained no less than 4.5 kilos of cocaine, estimated to a $500.000 value, when she was arrested, last year in May.
Lee Heifetz was trying to get from Peru to Holland, but she ended up in a Peruvian
Jail, she had been released two months ago, after she had executed less than 18 months of her sentence.
Her father, the Israeli ambassador in London, is now involved in a diplomatic scandal, as he is accused to have used illegal ways to get her out of prison.
The Peruvian President, Alejandro Toledo is also accused of favoritism, as he may have illegally helped the Israeli diplomat in this case, influenced by the fact that his wife is also an Israeli citizen.
According to the media, there is a video of on of the meetings that took place between Toledo's brother, Pedro and Hugo Sosa, one of the members of the special commission which was in charge with the evaluation of Lee's request for parole. Apparently, Sosa realized that somebody followed and taped them, so he covered his face, while rapidly leaving the scene in his car.
Zvi Heifetz denies having committed any crime and refuses to resign. "I will not step down," the diplomat told The Sunday Telegraph. "Why should I? No one has asked me to."
Lee Heifetz is now on parole, happily living with some friends in Peru, maybe re-telling them the story of her winning the beauty contest in the prison of Santa Monica prison in Lima.
