Sydney Pollack's "the Yakuza" (1975) is getting the remake treatment, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "The Dukes of Hazzard" producer Billy Gerber is in charge with the project, while Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell have been hired by the WB to write the remake of the '75 action movie.

"The Yakuza", starring Robert Mitchum, Ken Takakura, Brian Keith tells the story of a man who returns to Japan after a lengthy absence to rescue a friend's kidnapped daughter, ensuing in samurai swords slashing and guns blazing.

Leonard Schrader's story was written for screen by Paul Schrader and Robert Towne

The remake, which will be set in contemporary times, will reflect a more multiethnic Japan, according to moviehole.net
