The console war has been waged on all continents, with different results coming from different regions. While in the United States the Xbox 360 was very successful, in Japan, the North American platform didn't fare so well up until last year, when it gained momentum, and it is still holding its own in front of the local Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3.

The adoption of the platform by Japanese developers and publishers that wanted their games to be popular all around the world has also played an important role in this new-found success for Microsoft's console.

Among such companies were Tecmo and Koei, which have now merged into a single entity in order to become more profitable in these tough economic times. Speaking about the future plans, the Tecmo Koei boss, Kenji Matsubara, reveals that the Xbox 360 will be very important and will still continue to sell well in Japan and all around the world.

“Xbox 360 as a business is doing better than the old Xbox,” Matsubara tells game site Kikizo. “They have a good opportunity for growth, but of course Sony is a Japanese company and Microsoft is known as a business software company, so brand image is one point. Microsoft is doing well.”

The executive then adds that, with the help of new titles that will provide different experiences but of the highest quality, the growth will continue to show for the Xbox 360. “I think they have good growth potential for the future depending on the titles. We have a close relationship with Microsoft so I hope we can be a part of that.”

As both Koei and Tecmo owned a lot of attractive franchises, it will certainly be quite interesting to see just what this new corporation will announce in the following months. Look forward to more news about Tecmo Koei soon enough.
