The World Ends With You is the new RPG title from Square Enix that is going to be released exclusively for Nintendo DS consoles in Spring 2008. The game, previously released in Japan under the Subarashiki Kono Sekai name, takes major influences from Japan's modern culture.

The story begins abruptly, in Tokyo's trendiest district, when the main character, Neku, gets a phone message which tells him that he only has 7 days to live. It seems that Neku is some kind of Atlas, holding the city on his shoulders, since this means the city will cease to exist, too, if he doesn't accept certain missions. So he has to start fighting in order to get everything back on track.

John Yamamoto, president and CEO of Square Enix, says: "Square Enix has traditionally been associated with RPG's set in fantasy lands, but The World Ends With You is our first ever game to be set in modern times and real-life locations. The use of the Nintendo DS functionality is second to none. We believe gamers of all ages and abilities will be able to enjoy all that The World Ends With You has to offer."

Here are some of the main features of the game: every character has its own personality and stylish sense in fashion, music and culture. The combat system is said to be highly intuitive and innovative, using the full potential offered by Nintendo's DS Screen, Dual Screens and Microphone. Regarding the gameplay, one feature sounds most interesting: the character has the powers to read the thoughts of the population, put words into people's minds, and move objects to help him progress in your adventure.

Also, the music tries to reach most of the categories of players, offering a blend of hip hop, rock and techno while the story is a classic tale of friendship. For those who like buying stuff all the time, the games offers the possibility to shop and get the coolest clothes, which can be later traded with friends using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and then... The World Ends With You.
