The proliferation of the Bible in digital format is now encouraged

We live in a digital world, where huge amounts of information in electronic format are transferred and used on a daily basis (even the article you'll be reading as follows falls in this category). Given these circumstances, it's no wonder that the digital environment is the best possible solution to deliver a mass message, and that's exactly what the Catholic church will be trying in the coming years.

Thus, according to an article by Reuters/Hollywood Reporter, it would seem that the Vatican is keen on sending out the word of God through just about every channel available. And that's because a meeting of Catholic bishops that took place yesterday pledged for using mass-distribution solutions for spreading the Bible in as many languages as possible and to as many people as possible.

"The voice of the Divine Word must resonate over the radio, on Internet channels with virtual distribution (and by) CDs, DVDs and iPods, and on television and cinema screens," an official statement said, quoted by Hollywood Reporter.

We can't help but notice two things here. First, the fact that the iPod was mentioned in this statement, which means that the nickname "Jesus Phone" given to the iPhone might really have something to it, after all. Then, it was the utter absence of Blu-ray. I mean, they did mention CDs, DVDs, virtual distribution (another word for digital content download) and the Internet, but said nothing about what promises to be the high-definition content delivery vehicle of the future.

Anyway, it's not the first time the Vatican proves that it's continuously adapting to the modern world, since it was among the first European institutions to have a website, proving that the church and technology don't necessarily have to be incompatible. However, it remains to be seen whether this initiative will actually make the church more popular, but it actually might, especially if the "package" of the religious content proves to be attractive for today's tech-savvy users.
