STORAGE

The Wooden External Hard Drive

- A storage box like no other

By: Alexandru Pancescu, Hardware Editor

Unlike most external storage solutions, be them based on a hard disk drive or a flash memory stick, the Suissa external hard drive drops the new and slick plastic or metal casing for a more unusual but very appealing design. The unique Suissa external storage box comes encapsulated in maple wood and it features a round form and a more than generous storage capability:
750GB.

Faintly resembling an old wooden box, the design of the new external storage unit from Suissa is both unique on the storage devices market and the whole package is called Shadow, a most inappropriate name when seeing the wooden color tones of the external casing and the colorful painted image on the front of the storage unit. The only modern looking elements of the whole setup are the aluminum shiny legs that are used to stabilize the round wooden box.

The Suissa external storage unit is equipped with four high speed data transferring ports that make it very convenient to expand the functionality of one’s computer system by attaching additional peripherals like memory sticks, cameras and so on. According to the manufacturing company, the Shadow external hard disk drive comes with a 750GB capacity and it connects to the host computer system using an USB port, which gives it the ability to interact with all operating systems including Microsoft's Windows Vista. Another connectivity option that the Shadow external hard disk drive is sporting are the audio jacks that can accommodate a pair of headphones and a microphone.

Suissa says that the whole Shadow setup make a perfect gift, taking into consideration that the holiday and shopping spree season is only a few months away. The wooden external hard disk drive is available in two versions, costing $730 and $875 respectively for the deluxe model and it is available for online ordering from the producer's Web site.
