The studio wants a solid 30fps and is willing to sacrifice the resolution on consoles

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red believes that the game won't run at a 1080p native resolution on the PS4 or Xbox One, as it's really trying to ensure that the sprawling role-playing game will have a stable 30fps framerate.

The Witcher 3 is one of the most anticipated games of 2015, and developer CD Projekt Red showcased a stunning new gameplay demonstration at Gamescom 2014 earlier this month. The demo took place on the PC, but the game is also set to appear on PS4 and Xbox One.

While the Polish studio praised the new platforms from Microsoft and Sony in the past, it seems that they aren't beefy enough to run The Witcher 3 in all its glory.

According to Visual Effects Artist Jose Teixeira, who has talked with WorldsFactory, the studio is focusing on a stable 30fps framerate and it's willing to sacrifice the 1080p resolution in order to achieve this. While there's still a lot of work to be done, the developer isn't that confident in hitting the target resolution figure.

"Ideally, we’re pushing for 30 frames per second. The resolution, honestly, it depends; we’re working on it, we’re trying to get it as high as possible. If we can make it at 1080P, sure, but I don’t know if it’s going to make it."

"To be honest, I really don’t know. Probably not. But for sure, we need it to run at a smooth frame rate, so at least 30 FPS."

According to Teixeira, the optimization process is now in full swing and the whole CD Projekt Red team was surprised at how smoothly the game ran on the PS4 and Xbox One, and it isn't experiencing any serious crashes or errors.

"We’re doing optimization right now and I have to say, it’s actually running quite well. To be honest, we were expecting a lot worse. When we first started playing on PS4 and Xbox One, we expected the game not to work at all, because it was so heavy."

"So we were expecting it to crash, but it’s actually running. It’s not quite there yet, but it’s running. So I think that with a little more optimization, I think we’ll get it running really well."

You can bet that lots of things will change in regards to the game until its release next February for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, so expect to hear more in the following months.
