The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is currently scheduled to ship on May 19 on PC and on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One home consoles, and its makers, Polish studio CD Projekt RED, have offered us more details on what we can expect from it.

The third installment in the acclaimed role-playing game series will conclude Geralt of Rivia's adventure, with a more personal mission that sees the fabled witcher trying to find a way to stop the Wild Hunt, an otherwordly army, from invading his realm.

The game is based on the best-selling series of novels of the same name, penned by famous Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, and puts a profoundly human face on traditional fantasy adventuring, often showing that man is more evil than the mythical beasts Geralt is hunting, which is pretty much how those beasts were invented in real life to begin with.

The upcoming open-world role-playing game will take full advantage of the great power of the new hardware platforms and will offer an experience that is even more engrossing than the previous installments in the series, but many gamers are already starting to fear that things may not be as rosy as the devs would paint them to be, especially since many high-profile games have failed to live up to expectations lately.

Platform parity is a pretty hot issue right now

Damien Monnier, Senior Games Designer at CD Projekt RED, took to Twitter to shed some light on what we can expect from the game, trying to put the community's worries to rest.

First of all, he responded to a comment inquiring about the PS4 version of the game, stating that it was easy to confuse it with the PC edition, and then putting worries to rest by claiming that the difference between the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One variants of The Witcher 3 was just in resolution (1080p vs. 900p), as the game feels the same on both systems.

He further commented on the upcoming DirectX 12 support that is coming to PCs running Windows 10 and to the Xbox One, saying that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt wouldn't support it at launch, as for the time being the team is busy working on getting the game done on time, and that very few people would actually get any use from DX12 compatibility.

That being said, he did not discount the possibility of the team working on adding DirectX 12 compatibility further down the road, perhaps after Windows 10 is released, and it would actually make sense to have it done.

He also touched on RedKit, the popular modding tools released for The Witcher's custom engine, stating that the developers' plans were to let everyone access them eventually, and not just Steam users.

The RedKit modding tools enable gamers to build their own worlds within the Witcher universe, and to craft new adventures for Geralt.
