The optimization process that's currently underway for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won't lead to a graphics downgrade, developer CD Projekt Red confirms, so fans shouldn't worry about any decrease in visual quality for the sake of performance.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the next big entry in the role-playing series, with CD Projekt Red pledging to conclude the adventures of protagonist Geralt of Rivia in a grand way. Quite a lot of gameplay details have been shared recently but all sorts of rumors surrounding the game's visuals have appeared.

Optimization doesn't mean a downgrade

Now, after sharing new gameplay videos, screenshots, and information, CD Projekt Red has started talking about the oft-rumored graphics downgrade and how the current optimization process won't result in such an outcome.

According to the studio's Art Producer Michal Stec, who talks with Enternity, via DSOG, the studio is optimizing the role-playing experience in quite a lot of different ways, but none of them involves a lowering of visual quality, so fans shouldn't worry about the graphics.

“No. That’s the answer," he tells Enternity about the possibility of a graphics downgrade for The Witcher 3. "We are not downgrading it. We are optimizing the game but in a way that doesn’t affect the visuals."

The complex optimization requires a bigger amount of time, so Stec goes on to explain that the recent delay was due to the desire to really polish the RPG.

"So there is a lot of work for us, and this is also one of the reasons why we delayed the game. Because we still have to optimize it to get the best performance for you guys as possible," he adds.

As such, players should expect a great visual quality with The Witcher 3 when it's finally released on May 19 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms. CD Projekt Red is also expected to share even more gameplay videos and screenshots to further back up its statements.
