CD Projekt Red, developer of the upcoming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt role-playing game, confirms that, as a special thank you to fans who get the upcoming title, there will be 16 free downloadable content packs released every week after its February 2015 launch.

The Witcher 3 is eagerly awaited by millions of fans from around the world, as the RPG series made by the Polish studio already commands a loyal following that's quite eager to see the conclusion of the trilogy in early 2015.

After confirming that the game won't have any sort of digital rights management software on PC, as it wouldn't be fair to gamers, CD Projekt Red now reveals that it's taking a consumer-oriented stance on DLC with the new RPG.

The Witcher 3 is going to receive 16 free DLC packs

As such, right after The Witcher 3 launches worldwide in February, it will receive not one, but 16 different free downloadable content packs. All the add-ons will debut on a weekly basis and come with no strings attached, as all owners of the game across PC, PS4, and Xbox One are going to be able to get them at no extra charge.

The motivation behind this announcement, according to CD Projekt Red CEO Marcin Iwinski, is that many games nowadays often resort to charging even more for extra bits of content right after launch, thereby tampering with the enjoyment players are having.

"As gamers, we nowadays have to hold on tight to our wallets, as surprisingly right after release, lots of tiny pieces of tempting content materialize with a steep price tag attached," he explains on the official website. "Haven’t we just paid a lot of cash for a brand new game?"

"As CD Projekt RED, we strongly believe this is not the way it should work and, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have decided to do it differently. Cutting to the chase, everyone who buys Wild Hunt will receive 16 specially prepared DLCs absolutely for free, regardless of platform. You don’t have to pre-order, you don’t have to buy any special edition to get them -- if you own a copy of Wild Hunt, they’re yours. This is our way of saying thank you for buying our game."

The first and second DLC bundles are confirmed

The first DLC bundle, which includes two things, is going to debut one day after the game launches, on February 25. It features, as you can see above, the Temerian Armor set, which offers a new clothes for protagonist Geralt of Rivia as well as for his horse, and the Beard and Hairstyle Set for Geralt, which comes with different styles for the main hero.

Afterwards, a second bundle is set to launch on March 4 and brings a different look for Yennefer of Vengerberg, as well as a different quest.

Expect to hear more about the different DLC packs coming for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt as we get closer to its launch in February of 2015.
