The new role-playing game has quite a few faults

The Witcher 3 is finally available for all fans worldwide on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Our review awarded CD Projekt Red's magnum opus a 9/10, but as we saw last week, many early reviews from media outlets were quite generous, including lots of 10/10 and maximum scores. While The Witcher 3 is a good game, it's not a flawless one.

I praised and criticized The Witcher 3, and now it's time to focus a bit on some of the downsides and how they can be improved, through patches or through the upcoming expansions.

It's not perfect

First and foremost, the story mode is filled with main missions that follow the same basic outline. Go to a person who has knowledge about Ciri, do them some favors, learn a few new things, and then go to another character to repeat the same cycle.

This tedious pattern is a bit frustrating, as some secondary quest chains in The Witcher 3 are quite varied and offer much more freedom.

Yes, the world of The Witcher 3 relies heavily on favors and having allies in the right places. Yes, some objectives are quite fun but they still make Geralt to be a mutant errand boy.

What's more, the fast travel and general exploration are a bit tedious. Instead of using a regular system seen in other RPGs, like Dragon Age: Inquisition or Skyrim, you can only fast travel from a sign post. As such, if you start exploring the wilderness and decide to visit a town to sell items or begin another quest, you must keep going until the nearest sign post. Couple this with some areas that have very few such points, and you're in for a lot of useless walking or riding around.

Speaking of riding, horse-mounted combat is also disappointing, as actually hitting enemies is quite hard. While you can still hit, in some situations, foes on the ground, opponents that are also riding a horse become even tougher to defeat. As such, you might want to just dismount and hit enemies with a burst of Igni fire to get them off their horses.

Last but not least, the leveling up system is needlessly complex. You can spend attribute points on your combat skills, your magic signs, or your alchemy abilities, but you can only have a few of them active at any point in time. Sure, you can switch them up at any point in time, but it's complexity is unwarranted.

What annoyances have you encountered while playing The Witcher 3? Feel free to share your criticism, if any, below.
