Developer needs another 12 weeks to complete the game

Sad news for Witcher fans, as developer CD Projekt has announced that the third installment in the series has just been delayed by 12 weeks. This means that, instead of launching in February 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will now be released on May 19.

According to developers, the reason for the delay is “the sheer size and complexity” of the game, which seem to “have had a decisive impact on production.”

In a short statement for their fans, CD Projekt apologizes for the delay and says that they have set the release date “too hastily.” You may be wondering how hard it could be to make an open world RPG.

Well, it looks like CD Projekt is still wondering how much it will take for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to be released, “ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe.”

Given that The Witcher 3 will be CD Projekt’s most important title, it makes sense that the studio wants to offer a near perfect product in all aspects.

Reason for delay is devs need more time to correct issues with the game

This is another reason the game was delayed by 12 weeks. It appears that, as the game nears completion, developers have found that “many details that need to be corrected,” hence the extra time needed for the release.

We believe that CD Projekt’s decision to delay the game in order to make it as bug-free as possible is commendable, but we wouldn’t want to be in any fan’s shoes today.

In the end, it’s the final product that matters most, and if we are to take into consideration the last two games that were delayed this year, Divinity: Original Sin and Wasteland 2, things shouldn’t be as bad as they sound.

Both earlier-mentioned games have been amazingly popular among RPG fans, which proves that sometimes delaying a product in order to fix any possible issues is beneficial to both players and developers.

Here is hoping that this will be the last time CD Projekt delays The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and that the game will be as bug-free as possible. You can read the developer’s full statement below.
