The Witcher 2 has been launched this week and while the official reviews for the game seem to be mostly positive a strange phenomenon seems to be taking place on review aggregation site Metacritic, where the negative user review sections is dominated by those who have awarded the game a score of 0.

A look at the section for negative user made Metacritic reviews for The Witcher 2 on both the Thursday or the launch and early on during Wednesday showed that the section was dominated by reviews with a score of 0, most of them from users that had made just one review on the site.

Another section of users had two reviews under their belts, the other one being for Dragon Age II, the role playing game from developer BioWare and publisher Electronic Arts, coming with a compulsory score of 10.

A number of the user names used by those who have given a big, fat 0 to The Witcher 2 even have user names that are inspired by BioWare, Dragon Age II or the main character of the game, Hawke, making the revenge idea even more plausible.

Another suspicious element is the speed with which the reviews appeared on Metacritic, very soon after the official launch of the game.

Most of the user reviews that deliver a 0 score did not offer any useful information about the game experience in The Witcher 2, mostly trashing it while praising Dragon Age II.

The entire move seems to be motivated by a desire to bring the user score for The Witcher 2 as low as possible, possibly persuading a number of potential customers to drop their plans of picking the game up.

Some Internet forums are suggesting that the anti Witcher 2 Metacritic action was launched by a number of fans of BioWare games and Dragon Age II because CD Projekt RED fans did something similar in early March when the rival role-playing game was released.
