More time was needed to make sure the game handles well on the console

CD Projekt Red, the developer behind the recent The Witcher 2 role playing game, has talked about the title’s Xbox 360 version, explaining why it was delayed last year and how that allowed the team to add more content and features.

After releasing The Witcher 2 on the PC in 2011, CD Projekt Red quickly confirmed that the game’s Xbox 360 version is going to appear at the end of the year.

Sadly, that didn’t happen, as the Polish studio announced that The Witcher 2’s Enhanced Edition is now scheduled to arrive on the Xbox 360, as well as on the PC again, on April 17.

According to CD Projekt Red’s manager, Adam Badowski, the delay was due to his team’s constant strive for perfection, as the extra time allowed the developer to add more gameplay elements and enhance other aspects of the massive RPG.

“We wanted to make the game almost perfect,” Badowski told Gaming Nexus. “We listened, and continue to listen, to our community. We learned what annoyed players and proceeded to change it. We’ve added some new gameplay to Chapter 3, which many players thought was simply too short. In the two new quests, players will visit new locations, meet new characters, and see that the story is even more intriguing. But no spoilers. We’ve also added new cinematics, including the well-received CG intro.”

Adapting the game’s REDengine to the Xbox 360 was also pretty challenging, so the delay allowed the studio to also tweak things in order to produce the most visually pleasing experiences on the Microsoft console.

“The PC and the Xbox are different platforms that provide different performance levels. And we wanted to give console gamers the same experience that PC players had. This required a lot of effort from the start."

"The REDengine is a great tool, a tool that was created with multiple platforms in mind. The game is massive, and adapting it to the Xbox hardware was difficult, but in the end we prevailed! I think we pushed the Xbox 360 to its limits and are giving console players one of the best looking games to be released on their platform.”

The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition is out for the PC and Xbox 360 on April 17. Lots of extra content is included, like new quests, enhanced cinematics, and much more.
