CD Projekt RED has officially announced that it is working on a Xbox 360 version of its role playing game The Witcher 2 which is set to be launched before the end of the year and will come complete with all the patches and the downloadable content that will be launched on the PC until then.

Rumors about the Xbox 360 Witcher 2 have existed for some time and the game itself seems already designed with a gamepad based control scheme in mind.

The developers have not said why they are not also preparing a PlayStation 3 version of their role playing game.

John Mamais, who is an executive producer working at CD Projekt RED, has told IGN that, “The REDengine has been in development for over three years, with cross-platform capability in mind from the beginning. However as a matter of focus we decided to release exclusively on the PC first. We started work on the Xbox version five months ago, beginning with a small team that concentrated on solving some of the deeper technical challenges facing us in the conversion.”

When it comes to how the Xbox 360 adaptation of The Witcher 2 will play the developer said, “We're looking at the console adaptation from a usability standpoint. Basically, this means making the Witcher experience suitable for the new platform, but without altering the unique flavor of the game experience! This mainly translates into adapting the user interface, camera and controls.”

CD Projekt RED has also worked on a console version for the first Witcher video game but it has canceled that project in order to focus on the development of the sequel.

The Xbox 360 has already been targeted by BioWare and Electronic Arts for their launch of Dragon Age II.

The Witcher 2 is a more traditional game experience than the BioWare title, focusing on Geralt as he aims to discover why a mysterious force is taking out the kings of the region while dispensing his usual dry humor and facing a number of both human and monstrous enemies.
