Users mixed on the impact of the Microsoft Lumia brand

Microsoft has recently dropped Nokia and has released the so-called Microsoft Lumia brand, confirming once again that it's very serious about its mobile business, so new models wearing its own logo will arrive soon.

There's no doubt that seeing the Nokia brand go away was indeed a shocking thing for many people out there, but Windows Phone users have to go on with Microsoft Lumia for all future devices.

And still, as far as some users are concerned, Microsoft didn't take quite the right decision when it comes to the name of the new brand, and they explain that choosing just “Lumia” would have been a much better move for the Redmond-based giant.

Microsoft branding also gets more likes

A dedicated UserVoice thread on Microsoft's new brand name has more than 7,000 votes right now, with many users claiming that Microsoft Lumia shouldn't be used as brand for the new models running Windows Phones.

Others, on the other hand, think that “Microsoft” should be the only name showing up on these phones, while a handful of users believe that “Windows” is quite the perfect option.

There are some opinions though which suggest that both Microsoft and Lumia should be used on new phone models.

“Lumia on the front and Microsoft on back will look so much better than writing Microsoft twice on the device. We know it is Microsoft phone, but what new people will don't know is that it is Microsoft Lumia, people will only see it is Microsoft Microsoft!” one comment reads.

Windows Phone could be renamed in 2015

The new models released under the Microsoft Lumia brand are wearing the company's name exclusively, but there are some voices from within the firm suggesting that more changes are very likely to take place next year.

For example, Windows Phone could be renamed to just “Windows” in 2015, in an attempt to get more users and thus capitalize on the popularity of the desktop operating system in a much more effective way.

References to Windows as the name of the next operating system for mobiles have already shown up in a few videos posted by Microsoft, but there's nothing confirmed so far, most likely because the company itself can't decide whether it should go for this designation or not.

Windows Phone 10 is expected to get the first preview build for Preview for Developers members next year, while the stable build could see daylight in mid-2015 or even later, depending on how well development goes.
