2004, 2005 and 2006 proved to be fatal years for no less than seven Windows products. In the span of two years, Microsoft has continually killed Windows titles burying them in the unsupported
zone. The Microsoft elephants have one by one expired and were moved to the Windows graveyard.
Windows NT 4.0 is not an operating system that many remember but it is the forth product of the Windows NT series. It featured an updated graphical user interface based on the Windows 95 UI. The RTM date was July 29, 1996. Windows NT 4.0 Wks SP6a managed to survive until June 30, 2004, it was introduced on 30 November 1999, and the first Windows Service Pack that Microsoft cut support in 2004.
Next came Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Service Pack 6. Born 2 May 2000, killed just four years later on 31 December 2004. According to Bill Gates, NT stood for New Technology.
While Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 lives on, Microsoft has terminated support for Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 on 30 June 2005. The third service pack for Windows 2000 was introduced on August 1 2002. Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 3 has suffered a similar fate as Windows 2000 SP3 and even at the same dates. It is followed by Windows 2000 Server Service Pack 4.
And with these, we move to 2006. 2006 proved to be the last year of support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows ME. All three products moved to the Windows graveyard on July 11, 2006.
And as Microsoft was rushing to get Windows Vista finished, the Redmond Company also disposed of Windows XP Service Pack 1 that is unsupported since 10, October 2006.
