Microsoft has reported dropping consumer Windows sales for Q3

Microsoft has indeed remained profitable during the third quarter of this year, but the company has actually lost lots of users in the Windows business.

While Windows sales in the enterprise sector grew by 6 percent, the company recorded a 22 percent drop in consumer Windows revenue, which could be a sign that Windows 8 has indeed kept many users away from Microsoft’s latest offering in the OS sector.

Of course, Microsoft would pretty much blame the decline of the PC market, pointing to its 7 percent drop in Windows revenue from PC makers as the living proof, but it’s pretty clear that Windows 8 has until now failed to excite in the consumer market.

At this point, all eyes are on Windows 8.1, the new OS that’s supposed to fix all issues found in the core product in order to give Microsoft’s modern platform another chance to succeed. It remains to be seen however how many users actually decide to dump the Start button for a Start screen now that Windows 8.1 is up for grabs.
