Feast your eyes on this

Following the Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld video ads, and the I'm a PC commercials, Microsoft has provided ample proof that it does have a sense of humor and, at the same time, that  it is not timid about making fun of itself. The “PDC 2008 is coming” video is just the latest proof of this, providing viewers with an otherwise disturbing if it weren’t funny song and dance with Windows 7 as the main star for the Professional Developers Conference in Las Vegas at the end of this month.

“PDC is the place where Developers and Architects can network with their peers, get their questions answered by the Microsofties who are writing the code during Ask-The-Experts and take home all the bits on a 160 GB hard drive-including pre-Beta Windows 7! Yeah, that’s PDC. This is an inside look at one of our early brainstorming sessions… let’s just say things got a little out of hand,” revealed Channel 8's Max Zuckerman.

There are no less than 22 Windows 7 sessions planned for PDC2008, and Steven Sinofsky, Senior Vice President, Windows and Windows Live Engineering Group, is scheduled to keynote at the conference and showcase the operating system to developers for the first time. Microsoft indeed plans to serve all participants to PDC2008 with the pre-Beta bits of Windows 7, while preparing for the availability of the full beta reportedly scheduled to drop in mid-December.

And what better time than to draw some much necessary attention to both Windows 7 and PDC2008? Microsoft has revived the cult of the boy-band and, be advised, it has sprinkled a tad of geekness in the mix. The resulting cocktail is somewhere between putting a smile on you face and raising your eyebrows in disbelief. But still, it has an undeniable je-ne-sais-quoi about it that makes it simply funny.

PDC 2008 is coming… and I can’t wait!
