The Blue Man Group appears to rip off HowToBasic

Unboxing a new iPhone is always a joy. Even watching others do it is kind of awesome. But when the Blue Man Group is doing it, things tend to get a little weird. Especially when it appears that they’re ripping off HowToBasic.

The well-known musical group allegedly got their hands early on the iPhone 6 and decided to make their own unboxing video, likely to help with their fading popularity. Only they didn’t do a traditional unboxing. Not surprisingly, considering the group’s style.

What they did was kind of rip off HowToBasic, a YouTuber whose sanity is questioned on a regular basis. The Blue Man Group’s clip is strikingly similar to those by HowToBasic in that there’s no actual unboxing going on. Rather, the group just pokes at the box and then patches it up, slams it with a hammer, then gently touches it with a feather duster, etc.

Some will consider it interesting, some will be amused, some will find it odd, while some will regard it as a bit whacky. But one thing is for sure. There are few unboxing videos out there that are quite as strange as this one. Harmless as it may seem, one can’t help but wonder what the group’s message is here. Do you think you have the answer?
