One of the most important problems faced by all of those who use the webcam in order to communicate is that, once evening sets in (or if the weather conditions are not exactly the best), the quality of the image significantly decreases, especially in the absence of some sort of light source. And exactly for this type of conditions has been developed the USB OptiCam, the webcam with NightVision capability.

OptiCam is fitted with a 350K pixel CMOS sensor (VGA), but also with two Infrared lamps for NightVision, the type generally encountered in the case of higher end digital camcorders, enabling the user to be visible on camera even in a pitch black environment. Moreover, the device is also fitted with 3 white LEDs for light assistance, but also with a microphone, and the lens are adjustable for picture focusing.

Besides these special functions, OptiCam also has the functions normally associated to a webcam, among which the most important are the capture resolution of up to 640 x 480, the frame rate of up to 30fps at 352x288, 15fps at 640x480, as well as the fact that it is compatible with the most important IM services, namely MSN, Skype, Yahoo, ICQ, etc. USB OptiCam is available for 20 dollars on USBGeek.com.
