The development team at Telltale Games is getting ready for the second season of The Walking Dead and it seems that the video game might introduce content that’s linked to the current television series using the same universe.

Dan Connors, the chief executive officer of the studio, tells Polygon that, “There’s nothing saying our characters couldn’t cross over with their characters at some point in the timeline. It’s a very interesting concept for us.”

He adds, “A huge goal for us is what happens between episodes. How do you carry the experience through? How do you use this ability we have to keep people engaged and talking.”

Connors believes that anything is possible for The Walking Dead video game in terms of story and says that his team is currently exploring options and that a clear decision about the plot will be made at a later date.

It’s unclear how much of a link Telltale Games can create between its episodic title and the television series because it has a license from the original creator of the comic book rather than from the television network AMC.

The Walking Dead video game is set as a prequel, using an entirely new pair of main characters but dealing with the same themes as the comic book, with some cameos from familiar faces.

Telltale has managed to make the series appealing to both fans of the universe and to adventure players by creating an interesting story and by introducing many choices that affect the long-term state of the game world.

The team also kept constant contact with fans, tracked the way they were enjoying The Walking Dead and then sought to implement feedback in its next episodes.

The second season of The Walking Dead is expected to launch on both the PC and home consoles later during 2013.
